One of the first things you will see when visiting India is
the new models and colors of Indian women clothing. Women’s samples of clothing
in this country vary extensively depending on weather, local culture, and
spirituality, as well as urban or rural settings.
In urban frames, western clothing is becoming more common,
as well as the mixture of western and eastern clothing . For example, a kurta
(or kurta) with jeans is a familiar sight in Mumbai and Pune. In rural areas,
women wear more fabulous clothing.
1. Ghagra Choli
Ghagra or Lehenga Choli is usually worn by people from
Gujarat and Rajasthan. There are various forms of this attire that are worn;
one is the embroidered version which is worn during wedding ceremonies, and the
other is mirror embellished ghagra worn throughout the festive time of
Navratri. Donned with the odhni, this attire becomes more graceful.
2. Salwar or Churidar and Kameez
In the list of famous traditional dresses of India, this is
the renowned dressing mixture well modified across the nation. Some sway
replaces the salwar with churidar, and the kameez length can vary from short
kurta's to ankle length Anarkali suits. This was originally the traditional
dress of people from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.
3. Sarees
Sarees have seen an evolution of the diverse styles it
offers. The most popular types are the banarasi sari, kanjivaram sari, silk
sari, pochampalli sari, patola sari, etc. The draping bearing varies across the
country; some drape it with the pallu on front and some with the pallu on back.
This attire gives the woman an elegant touch. The saree (sari) is a long
unstitched cloth, ordinarily patterned, which drapes nearby and over the body.
It is consumed with a tailored blouse and seldom over a petticoat. This garment
ranges from 4 to 9 meters in length, and we can see it in women broadly across
India in urban and rural areas. I would consider this to be the staple of
Indian women clothing.
4. Sharara
A replacement of the ghagra is sharara or gharara which is a
baggy pleated embroidered trouser. It is usually worn along with a long kameez
and a dupatta. It is the traditional Lucknowi attire which originated during
the era of the Nawabs.
5. Kurti
A kurta is merely a
big shirt or blouse that hangs below the waist and seldom below the knees. This
one is suitable for casual daily use or even as office-wear. Many times it is
also accompanied by a dupatta (which we learned is the “Indian scarf”). A kurta
is often paired with salwar pants (wide at the thighs and narrower at the
ankles), churidar pants which are usually cramped throughout the leg, leggings,
or even jeans.
